Is it so wrong ?
A friend in my guild who also plays WOW just sent me list link;
http://wow.allakhazam.com/forum.html...9435331&num=95
.... I was just wondering if anyone had tried this in GW since the clothes are layered in the same way
Purely client side, so no-one else would see and basically just involves swapping in-game textures, for very small, or fully transparent ones, with the same name

That's some kind of weird.
But I doubt it'd work in GW.
For one GW seems to be a big fan of NoDraw where everything is hollow. A common practice for terrain in most games but usually not so much with characters.
Point is that our characters only have skins with the stuff on, there's nothing really 'beneath' except emptiness (for a better examplego to the random competition arena, find the area thats deepestin the water and sit down. Notice that your hair dissapears and your head has a huge hole in it?)
But given the looks of females in this game, if they were all naked, I wouldn't object.

people have been doing this in UO for years. Basically you can change pretty much anything to look however you want it to, as all the data files are clientside. So as long s you have the right programs its easy. Problem with guildwars would be if you get a streamed update that changes it; you probably wouldn't have backed it up and have to do it all again

Sorry, I have to disagree
If you read the easter eggs thread....
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=11706
.... you'll read that if you get the camera close enough to the player - it clips through the top layer of clothes, revealing an underlayer (some characters have thongs on ~i know thats really sad of me~ - anyway in much in the same way you can remove your own armour and prance about in your smalls, you can do the same with NPCs - meaning that there are several layers to clothing, so you could, in essance, alpha out the top layer, revealing the under layer!
I'm not asking if it is possible - It is - I was wondering if anyone had sucessfully done it - the problem being theres only 1 data file for GW!

If anyone here is turned on by polygonal nudity, seek professional help. Or a real person.
And I thought the pic thread was pathetic.

I'm sure this will end up getting me nerfed for trying to incite a flame war, but I feel I have to say something ...
What is your basis for feeling so superior and smug? This is the second time that I've read a message from you lambasting people in a thread telling them that they either need to get with a real person, or as you have infered here, are just generally pathetic.
The people in this thread felt like discussing a simple but laughable little flaw in this and other games. Although this may not be amusing to you it is still amusing to others. Was anyone saying anything of a truly deviant nature? No. They were having fun discussing something amusing.
I'm not qualified to try and psychoanalyze you ... or what this kind of behavior means ... I don't even feel a desire to do so. I just know what I come to these forums for. A fun time to talk and laugh with people who I share at least one thing in common with. I don't come here looking to be put down or insulted. I don't think anyone else is looking for that either.
Perhaps instead of suggesting that we seek a real person, perhaps it's time you start to see if there's a real person inside of you ... instead of this cynical fascade which needs to lash out at strangers.
Waiting for a nerf bat to come and strike me down.

What makes you think it's a facade?
And if you re-read my statement you'll notice it's conditional.

Ah, so it is.

Ahhh but you see ... if you reread MY statement ... you'll see that I've observed this kind of post from you before ... and it wasn't just the comment with the if / then statement ... it was that you've condemned an entire thread ...
It's not your words that I'm questioning DJ ... it's your motives ... your words are the only clues that we have as to your true motives, and they don't always cast in you the most flattering of lights ... as such, I felt compelled to say something ... not only because you've offended me but possibly others as well ...
So ... please ... consider what effect your words might have on other people ... after all ... there are at least two in this thread who weren't impressed ... what about those who might be hurt?

What about them? I don't understand what you're getting at.
Alright, I'm considering the effect my posts might have on other people, here I go... If anyone was hurt, that means my words must have hit upon an insecurity. So if I suggest that thinly-veiled flirting with invisible people on the internet is a poor substitute for real interaction and therefore pathetic, and someone's feelings are hurt, that's probably because of a deep-seated shame. In their heart they know it's true, are ashamed of it, and either get angry at me for reminding them of that, or angry at themselves for engaging in such a fruitless parody. Either way, the problem was theirs, not mine.
As for motives? You give me too much credit. I'm a creature of impulse.

Well maybe out of respect for those invisible people ... whom you seem to be ineracting with JUST as much as the rest of us are ... you should learn to curb those impulses ... especially if you profess to be aware of their deep rooted insecurities ... or perhaps as you suggest, I give you too much credit ...

I enjoy GW and care about its future, which is why I come here to argue and discuss. Occasionally I have an extra minute and dick around in the Off-topic forum. I have never felt the need to engage in the cyber support group that is the pic thread, where (with a precious few exceptions) the participants try to mutually stroke one another's egos to such boisterous heights that they all forget the things they hate about their appearance, instead of trying to fix them. It's a pretty sorry excuse for a healthy diet or some daily aerobics, and the day I feel the need for it is the day I lose respect for myself.
But what you're saying is, I should stop reminding everyone of their various miseries, so that they can go on pretending they don't exist instead of doing something about them?

Yes, because not everyone is ready for your reminders, or wants to hear your perception of what's causing their misery. Your type of forthright honesty is often misinterpreted. You recognize the thread for what it is; thing is, there's nothing wrong with it. Whether the thread serves a purpose you may not like or agree with, it is purposeful all the same.
Now you have to decide whether your energy expenditure is going to make a bit of difference, anyway, and if it matters that you're misinterpreted.

What I'm suggesting ... is that you not paint everyone with the same broad brush ...
Granted ... a thread where you post your picture up for all to critique is a bit of a narcissistic tendency ... but the difference between the community here and a hot-or-not thread is that is that people haven't come here explicitly looking for an ego boost. Rather as I have suggested previously we have all congregated in the spirit of sharing a common interest.
Perhaps some of these people are in need of a ego boost, yes. What I'm suggesting is that perhaps these people do NOT have another outlet with which they can obtain that comfort. Maybe they can't go to the gym because of a physical disability ... perhaps they've just got bad genetics and aren't what society would deem good looking.
That doesn't mean that they aren't worthy of respect. I'm sure that for some of these posters it takes quite a bit to muster the courage to submit themselves to the kind of scorn which might greet them. Therefore they felt more at ease here in the company of people whom they DO have a common interest, and therefore they do look for the support from those same people. That means that if we posses some basic human decency we do not invite them in only to harm them. We have come together as a family.
I personally feel bad talking about some other people in these threads in such generalities. I don't know what everyone's story is, and therefore I give everyone the same amount of respect until proven otherwise. I don't know what will offend people ... I don't know what will upset people.
Thus far it seems that I have not made my point, for whatever reason. I really don't wish to continue this line of discussion with you. Please just be aware that you could very well be offending a number of people who have come together in the spirit of friendship ... and are being turned away by a 'creature of impulse'. After all, no one came here looking for someone to heal their 'miseries' ... if they were, there'd be a thread for that. So please stop playing the amateur psychologist. We didn't ask for one.

I just come here because there are only really 3 people in my life: My gal, my friend Jen and my friend Ashley (one is back in collage and the other is in Florida), and as much as I love them, I need other people to talk to as well. I used to be a HUGE forum gnome back when I was an AO Addict, going on the main forums, going on the GSP forums (Think AO Radio) and just talking with other people and sharing stories, links or other goodies. I post here all the time because it makes me feel like I'm part of something again and that I have something to do when I come home from work and my pookey aint home. I like you guys and I apprecaite yall puttin' up with me, and I just want you to know that I don't come here for an ego boost as I just come here for the people.

Trust me, I didn't stop to make that analysis until you asked me to. But, fair enough. I will be aware of the things you've pointed out in the future. Just don't expect that to always stop me.

Darren.. come up with a cure for Hypermobility and Fibromyalgia and I shall forgive you.
Untill that day, please stop applauding yourself for being the most tactless person to grace the forum I've seen yet, and remind yourself that your main artillery of sadistic reminders and patronising pointers, parallel those of a seven year old.
In regards to the main post... I've seen worse
